BOARD OF DIRECTORSOUR SCHOOL
Raleigh Oak Charter School is governed by its own Board of Directors (BOD) composed of highly-qualified members dedicated to the mission of the school. The BOD is the exclusive governing body of the charter school and is responsible for ensuring student and organizational success. The BOD delegates authority to the Executive Team and holds its members accountable for achieving the school’s mission and charter outcomes.
The Board of Directors meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm as per their bylaws. All meetings are currently virtual. MEET OUR BOARD MEMBERS
Jeremy comes to the Board of Raleigh Oak as the proud father of current 4th and 1st graders at ROCS. Jeremy is a Financial Advisor with CAPTRUST Financial Advisors and brings over 15 years of financial experience into his role as Treasurer. Atlanta native born-and-raised, Jeremy earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. Jeremy holds his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation and specializes working with high net worth individuals, business owners, executives and multi-generational trusts. In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, seeing live music and traveling. Jeremy is honored to be serving on the Board of ROCS and is excited to provide financial oversight in the complicated Charter School landscape.
Roxanne is a mother and wife for her two favorite people in the universe. She came to ROCS after watching her child’s rough transition to traditional kindergarten after two transformative years at a Waldorf-inspired preschool. Roxanne holds an M.Phil. from Cambridge University in England and a B.A. in English from UNC-Chapel Hill, but she is most proud of her son’s home birth, 4 years of breastfeeding, 10 years of marriage, and nearly 20 marathons.
Alicia leads Supplier Risk Management at Cisco. She earned her MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Alicia is the mother of two young children, a 2nd grader and Kindergartener at ROCS. She had incredibly nurturing elementary school teacher for a mom and has gained international development experience that allowed her to witness the life-changing power of education first-hand. With this foundation, a passion for equity in education that has been an undercurrent of her volunteer work. She believes that every child deserves the same access to high quality educational opportunities like the one Raleigh Oak Charter School will provide.
Nerre Shuriah is the Director of Wealth Planning at First Citizens Bank Wealth Management. She has been in the wealth and tax planning field since starting her career as a tax attorney 24 years ago. Nerre was born in London and raised in New York. She earned her law degree from Boston College Law School and a masters in taxation from Boston University School of Law. She is also a Certified Exit Planning Advisor™. In her somewhat obsessive research about of the available schools and methods of teaching in the Raleigh area for her young daughter, she came across ROCS and was intrigued by the Waldorf teaching method. The opportunity to have children in our community learn at the pace that children grow in a format that is appealing and will foster a love of learning and school is appealing. Nerre is an experienced and passionate speaker and is excited to advocate and present the benefits of Waldorf on ROCS’s behalf.
Tiffany joined the board of directors in March of 2021 after being a member of the ROCS community since August of 2018. She is a mother to three boys, two ROCS students and one preschool aged son. Tiffany earned her BS in Business Finance at NCSU where she was an active participant in NCSU performing arts as a member of the dance company. Later, Tiffany went on to study nursing at Watts School of Nursing becoming a registered nurse and serving in post-op and trauma acute care at Duke University Hospital. Tiffany is currently a full time Mom to her three sons and sounding board for her husband who works in Biotech. Having been afforded the opportunity to study dance in public school in her childhood, she recognizes how important arts education is to academic success. Tiffany is thankful to be able to support access to the arts and the wonders of Waldorf education at ROCS.
Dr. Eli Typhina joined the board in June of 2021. She is the mother of a ROCS kindergartener and the Assistant Director of the Environmental Sciences program at North Carolina State University. She brings to the board nearly two decades of experience creating curriculum for and teaching in the environmental field at local, state, national, and international organizations. Dr. Typhina’s research utilizes behavior change theories from marketing, psychology, design, and human-computer-interaction to develop interventions to prompt environmentally friendly behavior. As a board member, she aims to strengthening relationships between the university and ROCS; as well as use her educational management experience to help ROCS develop the organizational support needed to enact the pedagogical goals of Waldorf curriculum. Dr. Typhina is highly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion; she is a NCSU’ |RED| Certified Inclusive Teacher and aims to use her experience in stakeholder lead decision making to help the ROCS community thrive.
